The sketch below shows my design for a mural that is now hung across from Eureka Senior High School's Albee Stadium. I was fortunate enough to benefit from career technical education as an active participant of the Future Farmers of America and Agriculture Learning Pathway at Eureka Senior High School. The mural was designed to showcase Humboldt County history with the saw mill blade shape.

This mural represents the Humboldt County industries that have supported it's growth including dairy, lumber, fishing, and forestry. It was designed to be representative of the excellent education provided by the high school's vocational programs that proudly prepare students to sustain the future economy and industry of our area. I was inspired by an an elderly woman I saw walking on the track as I passed the plain wall of the vocational department each day on my way to school. I wanted to change this first impression the wall made for the public. In result I hoped people in the community, like that woman walking, would smile because of the shinning program the painted farm scene, perhaps like one she might have grow up on, represented. I hoped she would smile because of the pride shown for the Woodshop, HROP Metals, Agriculture Department and FFA.

This project required me to, apply, present and gain approval from the school board, obtain funding through a grant proposal and coordinate my peers. This project helped others in the Agriculture Pathway complete the program with service hours. Some were artistic, others assisted in other aspects such as sawing the board. I learned about working with requirements through the County Office of Education and finding jobs for all skill levels within a project.  I am appreciative of the faculty and students that helped make this happen.

This project was funded by the
